Everyone has their happy place – a place where you go to get away from the everyday world.

We recently discovered ours on a visit to the Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort.

Picture a beautifully landscaped resort dotted with multiple pools, sandy shores, fire pits, an abundance of family-friendly activities and gorgeous oceanfront suites. That’s just what you will find at this luxe spot.

The modern pet-friendly resort is part of the Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort community that offers access to an 11-mile lagoon system complete with bike trails, tennis courts and three championship golf courses. The smoke-free property boasts having the largest resort accommodations on Hilton Head. Here, you can choose from oversized studio suites to luxury one-bedroom oceanfront suites.

When we arrived at the property, we were quickly greeted by the friendly front desk attendants who checked us in, and offered some helpful information about the property and area before showing us to our room. We stayed in a spacious one-bedroom suite complete with kitchenette that included a microwave, mini-refrigerator, granite countertops and separate dining area, and sprawling balcony that overlooked Breeze, the pool and beachside bar.

As the resort’s name implies, you are located directly on the water with oceanfront views just steps from your room. There are also three pools on property, including an adults-only one with pool bar, and cabanas that can be rented by the half or full day. Live entertainment is also held poolside Thursday through Saturday.

When it comes to dining, we enjoyed XO Sports & Spirits which offers local craft beer and cocktails paired up with casual fare like pulled pork nachos served in enormous portions. HH Prime is the on-site steakhouse with “show kitchen” that dishes out USDA Prime Grade beef selections (think 14-ounce ribeye and 12-ounce New York strip) and seafood each night.

For breakfast, we visited the café-style Palmetto Market that offered a variety of freshly baked pastries and made-to-order sandwiches to take with you and enjoy on the go.

Whether you opt to play a game of life-size chess on the grounds, rent a bike, canoe or kayak for a few hours to explore the area or prefer to simply relax and enjoy some tropical views directly from your balcony, the choice is yours. There is also a fully equipped fitness center, day spa, 19 tennis courts, 24 pickleball courts, 54 holes of championship golf available on-site as well.
